Map-based interface
From IntraLibrary
by Neil Smith
Simon is developing a user interface for resources which is based on searching via Google maps. In order to position resources on the map he needs them to have explicit geo-spatial metadata. Some resources do contain explicit data such as postcodes, northings-eastings, or fully qualified gazetteer information. Other resources either contain no explicit geo-spatial metadata or ambiguous metadata: e.g. unqualified place names such as Newcastle and Paris. Sometimes the location relevant to a resource can inferred from collection-level descriptions or context such as the contributor.
He uses AMG to try to add or improve the geo-spatial metadata so that the resource can be displayed on Google Maps.
