Tupulo project team at Dublin City University, Institute of Technology Tallaght, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, Ireland, System Centros de Formacion, Spain, Societatea Romania pentru Educatie Permanenta, Romania
This learning object deals with the topic of arrays in a java programming course. Many students studying programming have difficulty in understanding the underlying concepts and language constructs, and cannot progress with the normal pace of the course. This learning object can be used as self paced interactive supplementary material to complement a normal lesson on arrays. The learning object is innovative in that it combines textual presentation of the topic, illustration using animation , and interactive exercises to consolidate the knowledge, in a seamless manner. It is SCORM (1.2) conformant and so can be integrated with popular learning management systems. It provides more than the basic communication with the LMS. Tracking features have been added so that a course manager can see how a particular student uses the material, pages visited or revisited, and the number and accuracy of attempts to interactive exercises. This will provide important feedback to enable future development.
