2nd prize: Need, Supply and Demand

Stephen Allan and Steven Oliver, IVIMEDS

An interactive tutorial with video clips and talking heads, encourages students to explore the inter-relationships of ‘Need’, ‘Demand’ and ‘Supply’ of Health Care. It covers the following points: what is meant by ‘need’; concept of need as ‘capacity to benefit’; overlap between need, demand and supply of Health Care; policy approaches to maximising overlap. The learning object contains 3 interactive self-assessment exercises, with feedback. It has been designed to enable tutors to refine one of these exercises to best fit their own health care setting. The learning object is a succinct unit which deals with one area well. This means it can be used in many learning situations and yet keeps all the information in one handy file. The object uses Flash to display all content. Flash has a wide coverage in terms of interoperability and has a player on most versions of OS. The unit is also IMS packaged so can be used on many VLEs.
