Using intraLibrary as a SCORM repository |
INTRODUCTION
Any project or organisation that is developing large quantities of learning materials needs to decide the best way to manage those materials. Complex materials with rich interactivity pose particular challenges.
The Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), produced by ADL, specifies how interactive learning materials should be described and packaged. SCORM-compliant content is generally moved around in the form of "zipped" packages. These packages contain a huge amount of information about what their contents are and how they should be delivered.
It needs a particular type of system to be able to store these packages so that the information and content inside the package can be easily accessed and searched. IntraLibrary natively supports the fundamendal standards and specifications that are at the heart of SCORM.
USING INTRALIBRARY AS A SCORM REPOSITORY
Intrallect intraLibrary is purpose-built for managing e-learning content that is compliant with the SCORM reference model. The intraLibrary software is installed on one or more servers, using the documentation provided, and configured according to the organisation's requirements and policy. Users access the repository via a web interface, or through integration with other systems, based on the intraLibrary APIs.
Typical scenarios:
A content development team needs to manage a large quantity of SCORM-packaged learning content
- SCORM objects must go through a draft-review-revise-publish cycle
- Re-use parts of existing content wherever possible
- Sharing media assets within the team
An organisation needs to make a large collection of SCORM packaged learning content available to its members or partners.
- The SCORM metadata must be easily searchable and browsable
- Users need to be able to view content before downloading/exporting it to their own systems.
- A community wishes to make comments on the use of the materials, including their experience with them in particular contexts.
SCORM SPECIFIC FEATURES IN INTRALIBRARY
